James World: A Brief Introduction To Reactive Extensions

The Reactive Extensions (Rx) is a library for composing asynchronous and event-based programs using observable sequences and LINQ-style query operators. It has been widely adopted in GUI and server-side applications - particularly in the finance sector. Its applications are far reaching. It features heavily in the client and server side logic that drives Cortana (Microsoft's answer to Siri). It has been rapidly ported into several other languages, including Java, JavaScript, Scala, Clojure, Ruby, Python, Groovy and others. In this brief talk, I aim to give an insight in to what makes this fascinating library so compelling.
